ABOUT CYPRUS
The Island of Love
GET TO KNOW THE REAL CYPRUS
If all you know about Cyprus is the beaches, then you’re in for a fantastic surprise when you start exploring in a campervan. Cyprus absolutely has incredible beaches (although we would argue that the best ones aren’t any of the ‘famous’ ones), but there’s so much more to discover.
Venturing off the tourist track will bring you to hidden pools, the best sunset spots, underwater delights and secluded hikes. The best way to discover all of these gems: head out in Freddie without a strict plan, be open to getting "lost" and see where the windy roads take you.
LEAVE NO TRACE
We strongly believe in outdoor ethics. We expect our clients to treat the outdoors with the same respect that we do. Here are some key principles that we follow:
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces: When you're looking for a campsite for the night, ensure you're parking on a surface that can handle the load of the van. We aim to park on gravel, sand, rock or hard-packed soil; we always avoid grassy areas and any areas with plant life.
- Dispose of waste properly: We all make trash (usually more than we intend to!), so it's crucial to dispose of your waste properly. Always pack out your trash, and pick up any other litter you see lying around (even if it's not yours!). As for human waste, Freddie comes equipped with a full pamphlet on appropriate leave no trace principles when you need to go #2 in the wild.
- Leave what you find: It can be tempting to pick up a treasure from the sea, the beach or the forest, but please leave everything where you find it.
- Campfires are forbidden: As much as we love a good campfire, Cyprus is an incredibly dry country, and the risks of campfires in the wild are simply too high.
- Respect the wildlife: Certain areas of Cyprus (probably the ones you'll find yourself exploring) have rich wildlife. Never disturb wildlife or plants, and always be mindful of how much noise you make when you're in the wild.
- Be considerate of others: We know from experience that you're unlikely to be camped next to anyone, but nevertheless, it's crucial to be respectful of people around you, people's land you may be unintentionally parking on and any local people from nearby villages. Cypriots are notoriously friendly and welcoming, so let's show them all the respect they deserve.
